You Mainers got it all wrong. Here in Michigan, we try to talk our friends, into holding the coil wire while we crank the old tractor. Way more fun, especially when they jump backwards into the electric fence; for the classic 2fer...

Your post gave me a good laugh of a memory. At one time my brother and I were both going to BSU. I was in the auto mechanics course. I had charged up a condenser, had it with me when I met my brother for lunch. I handed it to him, he then proceeded to examine it with both hands - WHAM. A little attention getter that thing is.

Ya know, if we include these with Mikels and Brians suggestions, we may be able to put together as the 1st, universally accepted peeliminary test for becoming a farrier candidate! with or without a helmet

Ray is this the same rasp that I tried out a while back?

I used a lot of the hoof plain. I felt like the quality went down. Not near as sharp as they had been.

That does seem to be the way of it. It may be as word spreads and market share is increased then tooling and machines are pushed to keep pace with market demand.
Save edge are my pet hate, there product can be excellent or rubbish (or the ones they ship to the uk are ). However Alex uses the save edge finishing rasp for two reasons, to improve finish on the clenching and to increase the life of the clenching rasp. these work brilliantly.
I have not used the hoof plane as I am a bit tight!! but use Mercury which represent good value for money through finish and life expectancy.

    Michael,

same file different blank, made thicker to remove flex and delicate nature caused by how thin the center got because of the deep cuts from milling the teeth on both sides .

    David and Michael

i understand what your saying about quality and how it may be affected by production, but i ve often wondered if there are not some other factors, like that the hooves we work on are always different and that we keep comparing what we were originally exposed to . and that as humans ,do we just keep expecting things to get better!

Being the lazy ,that i am ,i stopped counting how many horses i get out of a tool and now count if it make my work easier, my elbows and shoulders seem to appreciate it,

    David,

what does a Hoof Plane trade for in the UK?

    David,

I sell both the Pferd Hoof Plane and the milled tooth. The milled tooth are made in India, and we, have them reprocessed in USA.

Just got a couple of 6/6 milled files in the mail. This thing is awsome. If it holds up it might be the only one I buy in the future. It peels the hoof of with very little effort. I gave the other to a friend and am waiting for a report. Looks easy to resharpen.

Ray how is your supply? and quality control? usually when I find somthing I like this much the quality drops off shortly after the think you are hooked. IMO that is what happened to the hoof plain

    Michael,

the supply is ok. by that i mean we have a good # on hand but are still working out the buggs, depending on how people like them will decide on how good the supply is. i like them alot, so if no one else does, i m set.

thanks for taking the time, and please let me/us know what you and your friend think in a few days/ weeks/ ....

I intend to set a quantity aside from several batches to use to address the issue of quality drop off, i m not sure that quality goes down as much as expectation goes up. i say that not to be argumentative, but because i m just not sure.

    regards
