Just wondering how many horses you all work on in a year. How many shoes compared to trims, etc. I thought this might be interesting. . .
check with the AFJ, Frank is always running some kind of survey. Probably able to find info on your specific region.
No wonder all the farriers over there are crying that they can't find enough work - You're doing all the horses!! Regards
I do ten a day. A day being 24 hours, that's about 2 hours 20 minutes per horse, so if I start early Monday morning, by Thursday afternoon I'll have done ten in a day. You just have to pace yourself.
I shoe 62 race horses, trim 93 foals (+ extentions ets), trim/shoe 97 yearlings and shoe in front and trim behind 3 stallions and 4 laminitic mares every four weeks. I generally only do fronts and let the assistants do the hinds on all but the foals unless there's a problem.
Usually just lie by pool drinking, occasionally I throw the poolside furniture into the water and insist on the staff jumping in and retrieving it, just to relieve the boredom. I take out the Lamborghini for a spin, used to take the Aston but it keeps breaking down, then there's the women, I manage to fill my time.
I don't understand how any of you have horses to do because I am sure I do all of the horses in America and still take a three day weekend
