hi all ,I came across this site a few weeks ago ,I keep coming back to read so I figured I should join up . i went to school appx 13 years ago but did not finish .I finally got my own horse a year ago ,she has been bare foot up till two weeks ago . I made my own shoes out of 5/16 th x 3/4 bar stock, a little light for her size I think at 1450 lbs. the shoeing went ok but will pull the shoes in a week or so to do a better job with some 3/8 x 7/8 concave . anyways that s a little about me .

Stock width looks abit narrow for those size feet in my opinion...what breed and job does it do?

If I was you, I wouldn't go anything less than 1/2", 3/4" would be better.

had someone send me this question and felt it should be posted "Im new to this as well , and I was told to ask why,. So im honestly asking, why do you have the heel of the shoe so far forward?. thank you ."my reply is I was aiming for about 1/4 inch past my trim on the fronts and just did the same on the hind .but looking at it now maby I should have given more steel in the hind .by posting these pic s I am feeding myself to the wolves I realize this .but I wont get better at this if I worry about getting stepped on . the reason I put on the 3/4 inch stock was because my horse came back from a ride with sore feet .so I needed to get her soles up off the ground .3/4 inch was all I had .

when I measured her feet to the trim I got 15 1/8 on the fronts the hind I think were 14 3/8 .I made a practice shoe with the 3/4 stock and minus 2 1/8 to account for the bend and I came up even with my trim on the steel so on the shoes she has on I minus 1 1/2 and came out appx 1/4 past the trim on the heels .for the trim I did on her I took off 1/4 inch on the toe not touching the sole the heels were rasped flush with the frog .to give an idea of width on these shoes they are 6 inches wide appx.
