My best record is 28 min flat ..my help also worked at the equine hospital/clinic and was on call and got a colic surgery called in so we had to get back fast... Not a pace I would enjoy working at.... I think most could shoe much faster if pick up foot pull shoe trim and nail back on and clinch upside down and drop the foot ... But we tend to use a system.. first lunge the horses if fairly newor change of riders or just to get a better understanding of how it goes.. next most important talk with trainer/ or owner..and find out what Comming up what shows will they be doing this cycle ..do we need studs do we need alum ..how's the horse going and what would they like for us to work towards..its always changing.. my business was build on acting like I give a damn and trying reach the same goals and being on the same page as the trainers and/or owners.. my business model was not build on how many can I pump out in a day ..what we don't get done today we will do the next day and if the next day don't come then it never mattered no way..

2 mins a foot? what can you do in 2 mins a foot? Honestly, to lift a foot, tear the shoe off, trim the wall back with the nippers, a waft with the rasp and nail the shoe back on without putting the foot down. That's not farriery
Ideally. . .trim fronts and measure, trim one hind rough trim the other and measure, go cut and mark steel put fronts in fire. Finish trimming hind and start making fronts. The most I've done in one day is nine full hot sets, some with stud holes... all at one stable. It was 42 degrees C that day. AND I NEVER WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN. I was wrecked for a couple days after. 5 hot sets a day is comfortable for me, though often to 6, sometimes seven .... and rarely 8. But prefer 5-6. I stay happy, healthy and wealthy enough at that.
Did 14in seven or eight hours pritty regularly a few years ago .dude ranch with 28 head i only had 1 out of work in five years and it was stone brused so while not my best work it was funcanal. Lol .Adda Patton showed up as a guest after one of these marithons and was suprisingly complementry .chocking it up to profesional curticy i called her to thank her and get her true opinnion .nice lady ,her only crateek was something i do on purpos on working horses in that steep sob.dont think i menshoned how manny i was doing a day up there
Josh we would have lenths cut in the van going up in 1/4" 12", 12 1/4", 12 1/2" ect stamped on the foot surfice. i would start on the hinds i feel there more settled by the time i get to the fronts (smoke) take the hind shoe off have a look at what size is on the back put the lents of iron in trim both hinds, make and fit nail and finish, i like to get the benifit of the hot fit same on fronts another reason i would leave the fronts till last is hate to see them pawing breaking up the feet
I remember having seen a pic you posted of size stamped on foot surface. I've preferred having the 6' sticks on the truck, seems I can get by with less in the rig. But precut lengths would definitely speed up the day. Have also considered keeping a horses size marked down and making the shoes for them at the house (marked and punched same as I wood if at the horse) and treat it like an eagle eye on the fit. Good reasoning for fronts last. Lately if it's a full reset I've been starting on one corner and working my way around. Get the lady shoe off and foot knifed. Fronts in fire and then finish trimming last foot. Fit fronts, when the last front comes out the hinds go in, drink of water and fit hinds. Then nail and finish hind, front, front, hind.
