I'm wanting to become a certified farrier and eventually a CJF. I'm wanting to become certified mainly just for me,and to gain as much knowledge and skill as possible. I don't think it will add more business or let me charge more for the horses I currently do. My question to you guys is, what was the reason you became certified and did you see any business advantages? Or was it just something you wanted to do for yourself. Thanks!
Do it, you will learn so much. Chip Crumbly is one of them.......Smitty you to, Love you will go far in this trade if you do. I'm Journeyman Horseshoer for Racing. now I am pursuing mine as well in the show world... ...it's different than the way I was trained. I'm learning too.
You will become a better farrier for going through the process. It is a good way to get a handle on the rudimentary basics. If all you want is a professional credential with a national farrier organization, you can buy those now from the AAPF for $200. It is the fastest growing farrier organization in the world. So why do all the work and take tests when you can just pay $200 and get the letters after your name.
Yeah, I'm not interested in just paying for some letters. As I stated above I'm wanting to do it to gain skills, and knowledge.
And if you do all the work and [successfully] stand for the exams, why pay $200.00/year for some totally meaningless, irrelevant and obfuscating letters after your name? Jacob, I suggest that a better use of your money would be to use it to join the WCB(https://www.facebook.com/pages/World-Championship-Blacksmiths/207502621790 / http://www.worldchampionshipblacksmiths.com/ That membership won't award you any meaningless letters to place after your name but it will help you attain you goal of achieving your CJF certification and also take you a long way down the road of education and skills development.
