I have a question that's kinda been bothering me. What do y'all think about Chris Gregory's FITS stuff? To play devil's advocate for the nonce, who determined the criteria for testing? Who grades the tests? I see Chris is importing Brits for the FWCF testing, but IIRC the FRC requirements, anybody with an AFA CJF, who's shoeing every day, is (was?) recognized by the FRC as the equivalent of a Brit who'd passed all the FRC tests necessary to shoe horses in the UK. I also wonder what the AFA thinks about it.

    Hey Tom,
Bring me up to date on these initials, or a link to enough info that I can form an opinion, or at least put forth one of my preconceived ones.

From what I can understand, FITS isnt recognised by the FRC and therefore the CJF is the only standard accepted for american registration. There are 2 levels of certification for FITS, the highest one being similar in standard to the british AWCF . They are there to help folks prepare for the WCF exams held at Chris Gregorys place.

I dont think theres any need to get your knickers in a twist about it, they are there to help folks prepare for other exams and encourage practical and theory revision.

I don't have an opinion on FITS so long as I don't have one , that goes for warts, freckles, coughs, colds and runny nose. That might change if it was guaranteed not to rip,run or snag, make conception a wonder or childbirth a pleasure.

I am however, GLAD TO SEE YA HERE MR. TOM.:D

i think its wrong the brits are involved , we should all have our own recognised education system and not make comparisons , we only have one qualification system here ( right or wrong is another matter ) , it must be difficult over there with so many different sets of letters and involving other cultures ie brazil , its a money making venture by a publiciry seeking shoeing guru , he should sign Tom Cruise as his publicity agent

I think (due to the "international" inference) it is Chris Gregory's role to play in the New World Order conspiracy.:sneaky:

For the nonce? Tom, if you stop advocating what would happen to the devil? Someone must soldier on in the fight against the Sweetness and Light Brigade. (y)

According to Chris Gregory's response in another forum, he developed the criteria himself based on stuff he already does at Heartland Horseshoeing School. Seems a group of farriers in South Africa (another rebellious colony?) requested that he put together a certification program for them what they could administer themselves.

My understanding is that the FWCF testing offered here in the US is only the AWCF level examinations. As such, farriers who have held the AFA CJF for more than two years may apply to take the AWCF exams here in the states. Seems more economical for a group of CJFs to take the exam here in the states and "share the cost" of bringing in a FWCF examiner rather than making the bigger financial outlay to travel individually to the UK to take the AWCF exams.

    Does the AFA "think?"

    Sorry Michael,
Since I've earned my BMF, I don't worry much about other accolades.
