A while ago I was doing a little research on Rasps and Files. Here are some of the sources I found online. This is an interesting article on how files and rasps were made (and still are) by hand http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/...reCode=toolstore&nextpage=/extra/AU-Hist.html Some old books and articles on files and rasps http://books.google.com/books?id=T6ZKAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA39&lpg=PA39&dq=#v=onepage&q&f=false http://books.google.com/books?id=7bg3AAAAMAAJ&pg=PA10&lpg=PA10&dq=bastard second smooth file&source=bl&ots=mDYMSyDc5v&sig=IFeVP-hVsSG7S485pPjFXsfjY_c&hl=en&ei=KOB-Sqy_GIuxtge5uIzkAQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1#v=onepage&q&f=false ray steele William Kiner
Spotonshoeing, I have found that there are still some hand made rasps/files in todays market, not used for farrier work that I know of , the prices of them are not as high as I would have expected for hand made. Williams explanation on the hot seating thread has raised another question to me. Which came 1st to farriery(is that a word), the nipper or the rasp? Regards Ray Steele
