Back on Sept. 11th I attended a clinic in Narvon Pa. USA. Approx 70 farriers were there, the majority were Amish. The day before I visited a shop in Drewmore PA., Keystone Blacksmith Shop, the proprietor showed me how he uses a battery operated fan, mounted to his tool box to disperse the smoke from around the hoof when he burns /hot fits a shoe on. To me it was brilliant , I can t believe that I had not seen something like it done before, now instead of trying to see thru the smoke he looks at a pretty clear hoof/shoe operation. I bought a fan and have been playing with it, I set it up to blow away from me and further use it with glues to exhaust fumes and dust when sanding acrylics, figuring that it at least cuts down the particulate that I breath.
