With the extra hot weather of summer here please be advised to keep yourselves hydrated and healthy while working,

a suggestion is to realize that we are shoeing horses .not doing heart surgery ,that it is ok to slow down, take a couple xtra sips of water and or electrolytes, if to hot just stop.

Last Wed. in 101 F I just kept working, water within reach, no sips, short of breath, but kept yaking and working on 4 disagreeable tbreds, got the work done, needed to sit for 2 hrs up against a hay feeder to cool and recompose... I cancelled my order of Foolish pills, I figure I don't need them any more...

I shoulda known better... 1st time in 38 yrs

    stay safe

Good advice. I almost went to my knees yesterday about 2:00. Had to go sit in the truck AC and drink some Gatorade before I dared drive to my next stop. I've been losing 5 to 6 pounds a day in water weight for the last 2 weeks, even though I've been drinking over a gallon of water. And it's only been in the 80's here. I don't know how the southern guys can take it.

    Regards

Rick we get use to it ..I took a page out of the old school book.. I do not use the A/C in any truck..I wear loose pants or overalls ..eat crush ice all day ..it seems to drop ur body temp.. at night the family about freeze me to death at night in the house..I sleep with a heater blowing on me year around..in the winter I sleep beside the fire place and last year I put my outdoor lounge chair to close and blistered my leg and the side ..scared the piss out of me the I would not wake up even getting burned..

I live in Florida and it has been very hot. Yesterday the heat index was 107 with 100% humidity. I don't work without shade and a place to plug in a fan or fans . I always try to schedule my stops so I can stop by the house in the heat of the day to cool off and change clothes. It's been miserable to say the least.

I live and work in Ga and I'm a limey. I work on Travis's theory its a question of acclamation. I don't use the Ac in the truck and stay out of the the ac as much as possible. I get home and the wife is complains its hot in the house and I am freezing! I can drink a 24 pack of water a day and I keep it in a cooler with no ice!

I probably shouldn't share how the weather here on the Northern California, Southern Oregon coast has been.

I don't even have AC in my truck. I wear a jacket in the office at my part time job. I keep my house at 77 degrees. Definately an acclimation issue. I did the same as a mounted officer, when the weather changed I started acclimating myself to the change a month early. No jacket when it was cooler at night so that the winter was not as rough, etc.

No fret or asking for people to feel sorry for me. "The Code of the Samurai" : " A student will immulate the bad habits of their teachers". paraphrased. So drink some water often...
