Went to a powere point lecture from a man from Mustad, very interesting.... They only make there nails from ore not from scrap..
Mustad has exceptional clinicians who deliver fascinating lectures on nails. When Steve Kraus spoke at the International Hoof-Care Summit, he had a tidbit about the importance of nails during the American Civil War. Nails were so difficult to come by for the Confederacy that generals would tell their troops to amputate the hoofs from any dead and shod Union horse.
No, Steve is balding with white/gray hair. I'm not sure who you are describing. I even did a quick online search and couldn't find someone who fit that description. Perhaps Mustad doesn't have all of the clinician profiles posted to their website.
I'm sure he's has other irons in the fire, so to speak. It will be interesting to find out. Thank you.
David, from ore? ..... or from analyzed steel wire? last i tried we used wire, not all wire is alike so it is imporant to have the same acceptable wire batch after batch, even ores will have different analysis, aside from the fact that it at some point needs to be made into a wire to be made into a horseshoe nail as we,our generation knows horseshoe nails. Regards Ray
Iron ore has different percentages of iron in the ore. The ore deposits around me are about 50% iron and the remainder is other minerals and junk.
When David asked about the dark hair and beard, I thought he was asking which Confederate General ordered horse feet amputated. I'm going with Stonewall Jackson.
David, I m sure that is high grade ore.....but....... unless someone has been fibbing to me all these years,Mustad nails are made of steel ,and steel is made from iron ore and other ingredients, perhaps what the clinician was attempting to say is that the steel used is not made from any scrap steel, but from the ore from the mine that you mentioned. that process allows more careful content analysis . iron is iron........ the quality would be decided by the impurities in the ore, remove those impurities and the remaining iron is the same as any other iron with the impurities removed. Ray
Sorry ray that is what I meant. Dug from the ground in Scunthorpe and turned into steel wire. He went onto explain the process of maintaining quality control but I had been in the bar till 2.00 am the night before so may of forgot the detail.
David, you really had me going, I went looking for one of those horseshoe nail mines in he Real Estate section, and was told they only can be found in GB! now as to being in the bar............... ray
Here's a thing, they make what they call service nails that take 4 days to set up the machines for a half a day run, things like foal nails, or odd shaped heads for small countries that have traditional nail patterns...They make 4 million nails a day, it just keeps pace with apprentices wasting them!!!!
I'm on my way to the Mustad conference in Rome now. There's gonna be a Finnish guy speaking about their nails. Maybe he's the Guy you heard. title of his speech: Nails: let's find out the secrets- P Marjomaa
