Directly to your question......... the resilants(spelling) of the equine, they can live/survive as a species with or without us humans............. you choose. ray steele
One from today. The owner said "we've been trimming her ourselves". I actually think I trimmed this horse about two years ago. this is the after pic. Its not my prettiest work but it was on a foundered, bad mannered ill tempered, fidgety pony.
When a person has a pony and says its ok, I tell them it doesn't cost anything to look at it. Most of the time using this approach I get a chance to look at it. If its ok, ok. If it needs a trim, I can point it out to the customer. Boils down to people think the pony shouldn't cost money - its not used!
or even horses out in the field ~~backyarders~~~~~~or to the other extreme [to save money] TB broodmares or even TB foals till they are ready to be broke then it's too late when they have limb deformities and they expect you to correct them, before they race them.
I find that people in my area that own ponies as well as other horses usually keep the pony on a regular trim schedule. It's the ones that only have one old pony that think it shouldn't cost them anything. They are also the ones who think the price of a trim on said pony should be half of a regular horse "because they're smaller".
It's only the same if the pony has been trained to stand for the farrier, if not it is way more work.
