Thought I start a thread on useless or time wasting gizmo's. You can all so post gizmo's that do have some merit even though not well thought out . View: http://youtu.be/xmjW4CqllUk
Funny thing Jack i had two App with me on friday and i gave them a run through with some machiners first they dressed the foot then had to get that picture of the foot in there head then they only had one heat to alter and fit. they had a few runs at that then i got them to dress measure make and fit when they had the shoe made they only had one fit allowed. it was interesting what came out of it all THERE IS NOTHING LIKE HAVING YOUR EYE IN
Its something that not easy to teach ether .Its like art, some people are just born naturals at it & with a little direction are on their way to turn out masterpieces . Others well no matter how much training you give them .They just cant seem to get past finger painting or at best drawing stick men poorly.
Well that will be always the way in any trade if you can get them thinking feet early and not other shapes you have a start and its all down to practising it then
How many have bought this over priced shoe horn bottle opener THE HOOF LINE !!! It does work well as a hoof pick !!!!!. What I like about this promotional photo is the covering up that he couldn't get the remaining two nails in. & the heel fit from contraction & corns are us.
I know a few farriers that on a daily basis they dont measure feet they just have it down to a fine art they just go away and cut and these horses would be hunter fit (harder again) i try get my app to think like this aswell
Smithy working on it becoming second nature for them is the way to go. I've seen some farriers make 10 - 15 trips to a foot & still not get it right. It does my head, I have to walk away its to painfully frustrating to watch. I think what could they possible be looking at & taking note of to make that many trips . I can understand making three or four trips with a horse if your learning or with a horse that has hardly any wall to work with. but 10 trips to a good walled horse with a healthy shaped foot; Its mind boggling.
Most times going back and forth jack is there confused i always say to them when your triming up that foot run it throught your head how you woul make that shoe or even when altering a machine shoe run through the moves in your head when triming
George if your silly enough to use those shoe's then your silly enough to need to use that tool. When those shoe's came out over here they sold like hot cake's. Every would be if he could be no nothing wanted their horses to be shod in them . That was for about two months. Till they realised once the toe in the shoe wore it exposed the metal insert; which become razor sharp.Bulbs artery's & tendons where getting severed. That was the end of any one wanting a horse shod with those. How many boxes do you want to buy cheap. There is an abundance of supply over here at give away prices
i carry one ,its a very useful tool when you have vets ,owners and know it all argies and equine professionals telling you , you are wrong .
City of Mobile still uses those rubber shoes. Farrier made his own tool for shaping them. Hooks into his bumper hitch. He doesn't like them either. Hopefully this year will be the last they use them, as they are not buying anymore either.
Well if it keeps the whingging owners at bay when you whip it out of your tool box. Then it has a good use for something. I use to carry a small fold up A frame sign that I had made. That said no domestics with a red led flashing light on it. Id pull it out & sit it on the roof of my ute. when ever the mothers & daughters would start arguing as they do. Even carried a long rubber nose for a long time & would pull it out of my pocket & start wearing it if I thought I was being lied to. most found it funny & feast up to the truth. others just thought I was mad & still kept blabbering out lie on top of lie. Others just got plain offended but were still happy to have me shoe their horses.
hey Jack i was given one of those seat things with a leg that dangled down, kin useless, but they thought they were helping me out , i still have the bloody thing , the worst thing was it was that it even fitted my inside leg , it might be useful for an man like you when you shear your sheep
