I use a grinder to trim some feet, I have been using it for years. It is particularly useful with horses under general anesthesia, but I use on non-sedated horses as well.

What disc do you use Pat ..grit and brand :)
In the above vid I don't see any dust .. When I've used a grinder there's been more dust ?? I Think I've used 36 or 40 grit..

A European co. is promoting a "combi loc" system for use with 4 to 5" hand held grinders, most popular grits are36 and 40.

I like the older guys that use a Rasp but as soon as its a tad dull they throw them out...I go behind and dig in the truck and dig them out and another 100 miles on it...call me cheap I guess.but that is a extra 60 bucks in saving each month..

And into all the typical whacko stuff purveyed by the likes of Phineas Taylor Barnum!

Parelli, homeopathy, barefoot, bitless and braless! And of course ... self-taught! With accompanying bovine excrement about those nasty farriers not knowing how to do a barefoot trim and forcing poor pony into horse shoes!

Steady George, surely a good looking one might be viewed in a slightly more favorable light?

    Mutton dressed as lamb.

As for the grinder, i wouldnt want to use them anywhere near a hoof but im not american. The horses in these videos would appear to be the type that wouldnt move even if a car drove into them. Perhaps Im not working on well behaved horses enough!!!

If I said I never used one on a foot I be lie..not often but when the time is right..we had a yard with 16 drafts and when we run them in the stocks get him strap down safe..4 half inch 36 grit grinder came out.. it turned a two man two day job into a two 6 hour job... After a few times all we had to do was put a rope on the foot one would lift and hold and one would run the grinder..horse never bleed...but we damn sure did ..many times..and got the feathers wound up one time ..damn near turn the stocks over when that happen..mabey it was not the best way to most but its what we did and do..she also had Arabs but we just use Rasp on them cause foot so small..
