Monty here is a steel version, the one that got the aluminium version had a lighter foot
If I think of it will post next foot that has a crack they are normally new clients
Your not going to win every battle monty but I have done well in the past keeing on top of the problem, seeing whats working and whsts not

Depending the foot thats in front of me monty I will make what ever is best for the situation
It all comes back to the foot you preper for the bar shoe Then you need it fitting well, if its a well made shoe for that foot is what counts,...
I have forge 2 clips one each side of the crack and set down in between the clips
I normally make a bar-shoe and float the area monty
